Dear Friends and Colleagues

Thank you very much for coming to Banff. We hope you enjoyed your stay and loved the science. See you at IPS2019!

It is our pleasure to invite you to Banff, Canada, for the 10th General Meeting of the International Proteolysis Society from 28 October to 2 November 2017, and early career seminars and training workshops on the 27-28 October. The meeting will be held in the heart of the Rocky Mountains at the Banff Centre in Banff, Canada. We have put together an outstanding scientific program covering various aspects of protease research. Our meeting includes presentations by distinguished and internationally renowned investigators. Certainly, the Banff region in the Canadian Rockies is a splendid venue to be inspired, discuss with colleagues, forge new collaborations and see great science by young and seasoned scientists of the protease field.

From a cell’s birth during mitosis or meiosis to its death by one of the several modalities that exist, peptidases shape all activities of cell’s life in all organisms. Thus, it is not surprising that most pathologies have proteolytic activity either as a cause or as a contributing factor. Despite the fact that peptidases have been the focus of intense scrutiny for more than 135 years (Who does not recall the 1880 work by M. Ad. Wortz on papain?). However, we still have much to learn helped by genetics, ‘-omics’, chips, libraries, chemistry, cell biology, and imaging tools, all underpinned by biochemistry. Hence, Frontiers in proteolysis is the meeting motto to highlight where proteolysis research will lead us.

Twenty years ago, Professors Bonnie Sloane and Guy Salvesen organized the first IPS Meeting on Mackinac Island in Michigan. Of course, we will mark the 20th Anniversary of the first IPS Meeting in a special way! We look forward to seeing you in Banff, Alberta. Cowgirl or Cowboy boots and hat, belt buckle and bolo tie are optional but highly recommended!
